Governor Newsom’s Signature on AB 1923 Puts Transportation Funding Decision Back in Voters’ Hands

The Better Roads, Safe Streets campaign released the following statement today after Governor Newsom signed AB 1923, legislation that protects Fresno County voters’ right to decide the future of local transportation funding this November.

“We’re grateful to Governor Newsom for signing AB 1923 and for standing up for the basic democratic principle that people should decide the issues that shape their future. Fresno voters did the work to place the Better Roads, Safe Streets measure in front of taxpayers, and now all voters in Fresno County will have the chance to weigh in at the ballot box — thanks to the Governor’s action, along with the leadership of Assemblymember Esmeralda Soria and Senator Anna Caballero.

“With the bill signed into law, the procedural work is done and the real conversation begins. We look forward to talking directly with voters in the months ahead, and we invite our neighbors to join our efforts to ensure every city and town has local funding for fixing roads, improving street safety, emergency response times, enhancing public transit, and keeping kids safe on their way to school.”
