Clovis Chamber of Commerce Endorses Measure S
Chamber says safer, more reliable roads are essential to a strong economy and a thriving community
CLOVIS, CA –
The Clovis Chamber of Commerce has endorsed Measure S, the citizen-led measure on the November 3 ballot to fix Fresno County’s roads and make streets safer without raising taxes, the Yes on Measure S campaign announced today.
“The Clovis Chamber of Commerce is proud to support Measure S because strong infrastructure is essential to a strong economy and a thriving community,” the Chamber said in a statement. “Investing in safer, more reliable roads and transportation helps businesses move goods, employees and customers, supports continued economic growth, and strengthens the quality of life for all. Supporting Measure S aligns directly with the Chamber’s mission to advocate for a healthy business environment and a stronger Clovis and the Central Valley.”
Measure S continues the same half-cent Fresno County has paid for transportation since 1986. It replaces Measure C, which expires in 2027, and does not raise the current rate.
The measure is projected to generate an estimated $7.4 billion over 30 years. Sixty-five percent, about $4.8 billion, goes to repairing existing neighborhood roads, twice the share dedicated to local road repairs under the current measure. The plan makes it easier, quicker, and safer to drive, bike, and walk in Fresno County.
Bad roads cost local businesses every day. Potholes and crumbling streets delay deliveries, damage vehicles, lengthen commutes for workers, and make it harder for customers to get through the door. Measure S fixes the worst roads first, makes streets safer, creates good local jobs, and helps small businesses grow, all without raising taxes.
The Chamber’s endorsement adds to strong support in Clovis. The Clovis City Council approved a resolution backing the measure in March, and Clovis Mayor Vong Mouanoutoua is among the 11 mayors supporting it. Countywide, the Measure S coalition includes a majority of the county’s cities, large and small, along with more than 60 business, labor, and community organizations.
Measure S requires annual financial audits, a public database tracking how every dollar is spent, and an independent Citizen Oversight Committee. Funds cannot be taken by the State or used for other purposes.
Ballots have begun arriving in mailboxes across Fresno County, and voters can cast their vote on Measure S through Election Day, November 3. For more information, visit voteyesons.com.
